How does 9800 Pro compare...?

Hi there. I am thinking of upgrading my ageing Radeon 9800 Pro to....something (haven't yet deciced) and i was wondering how does my old card compare to the new cards out there. I know that it used to be ATI's flagship (best card) at one time and i haven't seen a comparison with , say 7600GS or GT.I game at 1024*768 mainly. Any help?

Really? I thought that being newer card at one hand but not being Nvidia's high-range product (rather mid-range in fact) would result in about the same performance!

7600GT would completly DESTROY a 9800 pro or XT

infact I would say it is easily twice as powerful/fast than a 9800xt...which is what I had befor I bought the 7600GT


I play CSS @1024/768 with everything including AA/AF maxed and I get 50+fps

Lets assume

9800pro = 6600gt

Then in 3dmark06 4xaa 8xaf

6600gt = 424
7600gs = 736
7600gt = 1066

Since the 9800 pro you have had 2 newer generations (Nvidia 6*** and 7*** & ATI x*** and x1***) hence the 7600 being a big improvement over the 9800 Pro. Tech has moved on.

just played through the half life 2 lost coast level on my 7600 gt agp. i had a 9800 pro before and never bothered with L.C. I am amazed at the 7600 gt for the money. With 2 x AA and 16 x AF(1024x768) i averaged a touch over 52 fps and thats with hdr on
