No tv in my room since i rarely watch it, just wondering how a 360 looks on a 2005fpw with the vga cable accesory? Ton of difference between that and a hd tv or not that noticable?

Also is there an option in the setup to use the native res of 1680x1050?

Hm so what would the best res be for my monitor and a 360? :)

720P looks a lot smoother because the framerate is double that of interlaced and it also has a higher verticle resolution than 1080i.

You look at the Last number AFAIK.

Then you can see how they are only 720p or 1080i.
No.

There are only 7 different VGA resolutions, 1360*768 is the biggest of them.

I use the 1280*768 resolution so I can maintain the aspect ratio on my monitor.

1080i is only currently available by using the component cable.

Is this set up via the game or via the dashboard? Never tried VGA resolutions before.

On my NEC 20WGX2 it looks absolutely stunning, it's really a fantastic monitor but even on my old dell 1801FP it looks brilliant :)

Far better than on any HDTV I have seen.

There's no point in 1080i because it is just 720P upscaled and interlaced anyway. So you don't get anymore quality if your TV scales well.

Again I use 1280*768 but that's still output in 720P and upscaled.

On my dell 2007FWP it looks amazing. I am using the offical MS VGA cable.

There is no option to use the native res, but you can upscale from different resolutions by the monitor, to use full or fit.. I use full, cause I dislike the black bars.

I am using 1366x768 at the moment. Looks beautiful. Just remember you may need to turn down the brightness a bit using the monitors controls.

i used to use the same monitor and it is absolutly fine. IMHO it does look better on a HDTV, as it is running on a native resolution, but it looks great on a monitor too.

I'm seriously considering getting another screen for the 360 as I rarely get the chance to play on it downstairs.

I'll probably put the screen in my computer room and I'll probably want to watch some TV on it too.

So if you had say £600 ish would you go for something like the new 26" Samsung LCD TV or a PC monitor. I am not sure which would be better as an allrounder for 360, TV and possibly a bit of web browsing.

I'm running my 360 on my 19" Widescreen Hanns G TFT at a res of 1380x768 (or whichever the higest one is) and it looks terrible, am I missing something? The monitor has a native res of 1440x900 but the image looks really blurry.

I'm using the official VGA cable too. Does it matter if I have my DVI input from my computer plugged in at the same time?

Shouldn't make any difference.

I'm running mine on a viewsonic VX2025 at the highest res and it's stunning. No probs at all.

I do for the Samsung > Monitor - will still look fantastic and is a good monitor also if you want the pc on it - not only that but makes a great TV too. Seems more of an all rounder to me

i'd agree, the 360 would look better on the TV and you can still use it as a PC monitor anyway

Wah! Be careful! The 720p and 1080i standards being mentioned in this thread can be a bit misleading as we are not dealing with consumer HDTV sets here.

IMO, all you need to know is that whatever resolution you decide use from the 7 available, upscaling WILL happen unless the native resolution of your monitor is a perfect match.
Therefore, it would make most sense if you choose the one with the biggest pixel-density.
To compare:

1360x768 - 1.04MP
1280x1024 - 1.31 MP
1280x768 - 0.98MP

Goes without saying then, that most of use should be using 1280x1024 through our HD VGA cables! :D
