Hi there,

Im looking to buy a Xbox 360 to use on my 22" Dell monitor.

Few questions-

-Will it look ok? I think I need a VGA cable right?

-How will sound work? My speakers are connected to the PC and I dont think the monitor has sound.

-I only have one ethernet cable on the wall, how would I be able to connect xbox at the same time as my PC?

Thanks

I have the same setup here.

-Personally i think it looks fine, not as good as it could have but the monitor is native 1680x1050 and i output the xbox with either 720p or 1300x768. In the 1300 res there is the illusion of slightly less aliasing which is nice if you're not to bothered about a very slight almost unnoticable blur over everything (which is also present in 720p). Yes you'll need a vga cable and the monitor support changing between the dvi and vga inputs with the press of a button.

-There are no speakers on this monitor, although there are mounting brackets for the dell sound bar there is no power adapter for it on the monitor itself so i don't know how well it will work. My solution is to use the line in on my pc, it does mean the computer needs to be switched on to hear the xbox though.

-only solution to this is using a hub, get a dirt cheap usb powered hub and connect that to the wall and then to the xbox and pc at the same time.

Although you may want to avoid this setup if you have annoyances with aspect ratios, the xbox outputs at 16:9 whilst the monitor is 16:10. So far only one game supports this, and that's ikaruga. A driving game is annoying when looking around the car and seeing it changed shape when looked at from the side. Others games i can't notice it though.

Alright just done abit of research and Im still confused lol, the offical VGA cable comes with two connectors, and I'm confused as to where these connecters actually go :S

When you purchase the official vga cable it comes with a phono to 3.5mm jack adapter. The 3.5mm jack will just plug into the line in port on your pc's sound card and should work automaticly through windows.

Most of the ports on sound cards are colour coded, but i'm colourblind so can never tell which one i need. But a bit of trial and error in this case is not such a good idea when dealing with line in cables.

edit: just seen new reply.

The two connectors are the actual vga plug and then the sound is supplied through the two phono cables, which are plugged into the aformentioned adaptor.
