How does an OEM CPU differ from a non OEM CPU?

Why is the warranty different by the way?

I'm not sure what the point of them is seeing that it's probably harder to sell oem chips on.

^^Anyone using a HSF on their x99 board deserves a slap!

Anyone using the stock heatsink & fan you mean... except of course there is no stock one for x79 or x99. Not using a heat sink at all would be a poor choice! (Remember watercooling is still a heatsink! Normally has fans to dissipate that heat to the air and all.)

Think he means anyone not using AIO/loop.

I didn't realise the warranty is different.

TBH you shouldn't be able to buy OEM chips any way. They're done on trays for system builders so I guess the ones you are finding are just left over stock.

It's far better to get a sealed retail CPU any way. Companies like OCUK hand the trays over to 8 pack so all of the good ones will be gone.
