GTA V performance chart (GTX 950-GTX980M)

Some days at the office are better than others – like, for instance, those days when we can compare in-game performance in games such as GTA V. We compiled a little chart to show you what sort of results you get with our different mobile graphics solutions, starting from the GTX 950M (found in the likes of the GE60 and even the P series) to the range-topping GTX 980M in the GT72.

The chart shows you what sort of framerates you can expect in GTA V in our custom benchmark – with all models powered by an Intel i7-4720HQ CPU and minimal spec differences otherwise

Unsurprisingly, the results are plain to see – the graphics cards perform in line with their naming hierarchy. What is clear though, is that the GTX 950M, the card in the lowest end of the pecking order, makes for playable framerates even at Medium settings. Maxed out at Ultra levels though, only the GT72 with its GTX 980M stays above the 30 FPS mark.

Hi Loki,

Re the GT72, I'm weighing up my options now as Project Cars is really showing up my 650m SLI (possible optimisation).

However from looking at youtube videos, this laptop will still see sub 60fps on ultra in the rain.

Are you able to run some benchmarks for this laptop and game respectively?

Also I was able to overclock my 650m cards from 900mhz to a whooping 1150mhz, that's very respectable IMO.

What are the 900series like for overclocking/gains to be expected.

Depends how far down the rabbit hole you go. With a custom video bios, good high quality paste application and some careful tweaking you can get 1250-1300 mhz core clocks and 1450mhz memory clocks giving you around stock desktop 970 performance levels.
