How does iPad handle HUGE pdfs?

Key point before I buy...

None of the WebOS apps I've tried on the touchpad I got in the firesale can cope with PDFs with hundreds of pages, let alone with PDFs with more than a 1000 pages full of diagrams. It takes minutes to load the document no matter how many times you've used it before, and takes a minute to change pages if you jump a bit.

Anyone tried using the iPad 2 as a textbook pdf reader? And how does it cope with document loading and rapid page changing (esp. if the pdf has active links in its index and contents)?
 
Hm not sure how to link you to a 400mb textbook on my hard disk :p. I'll try to find a similarly big file online somewhere...
 
Thanks for the goodreader suggestion, thought I'd try it out on an iphone 4.

120mb 1250 page textbook with a bucketload of pictures loaded very quickly indeed (<4s). Clicking links in the contents takes you straight to the relevant page which loads pretty much instantly. Compared to the touchpad it's like a quad core SB vs a pentium from the 90s :p. Though I guess that's more due to software optimization.

400mb radiology textbook however crashes every time. I guess this is due to a lack of RAM? Excellent app though, will probably go ahead and buy an ipad :).
 
Took about a minute to download in safari, web browser navigates it fine as does the iBook thing. Not tried the app mentioned above.
 
Ipad2 here. Theres also an App called 'Bookman Lite', it pre-processes anything you load into it to ensure that large files books/magazines are optimised for the iPad. There is also 'PDF-Notes' which works similarly, however it's main purpose is to edit PDFs.

However the lack of flash support for general surfing is a PITA!
