Hi all,

I was just wondering, on a network, how does Itunes actually work? So when you are downloading music and films, allot quicker than through torrentz, how is the network set up? Does it go straight from itunes software to a server or is it via the internet or some other mad network?

Anybody know please give me an insight

Cheers

Mike

Well basically Steve shares his itunes library so everyone can get access to it via the store, now because hes super rich he has a mega 1337 interwebz connection so you never get slowdowns, whereas torrentzzz are for poor people and we all know poor people dont have very good intewebz connection so its slower to download.

But serious, torrents use Peer2Peer file sharing, iTunes is hosted at a datacenter most likely.

because a music file is small by the time a torrent client has connect to several peers its faster to have jsut downloaded it from a data center..

I take it it skips the internet all together and goes straight to the servers and storage centers over at apple and just downloads straight to your laptop? So how does it work when you purchase summit, so say you buy an album, they ask for ya details, and only once thats sorted can the download start?

And the set up would skip the inet all completley, go straight to their servers and storage back to that subscriber and just download to their laptop?

I am trying to draw out like a network map from itunes to the storage and back, for uni work, absolute ball ache!

Unless you are on the same LAN as the datacenter, then no, you are still using the internet.

I don't even understand what you are asking? You sign in using your credentials, purchase said music, and get a token (probably cookie based) to download the purchased music.

No.

Your LAN > Router/Modem > Cloud (called Internet) > Router > LAN (Apple's Datacenter).

You sure you are on the right course?

Cheers mate lol the course I am on is not I.T based, the study im doing is on digital downloading and this whole debate of physical sales vs download and I need to demonstrate the proccess of how it would work, its only a little section but still needs to be done, got advised to ask you guys cause you lot will be into this type of stuff so gave it shot, seeing who could help, but hey at the same time I am curious to know how it works, from buying the stuff to downloading, quite interestin, cheers for your help though pal!

Oh and with regards to the purchasing thing, I was interested to see how it would work, so once you have paid, the download starts automatically to ya laptop, just wondered how that worked as I have no idea, and am curious. Could be summit real simple but I wouldnt have a clue! My mate was right though, you guys know your stuff!

You've asked this question three times on three different parts of the forum. Please don't crosspost like this in future. I've closed the other two threads.
