How does my build look?

I have not built a PC for a good few years and never really keep up with new hardware any more. After a good amount of research I feel I have put a pretty good build together, but this forum has many members much ore knowledgeable than myself, and I would like their advice as to whether I have picked the best choices for my budget and if I missed anything out.

I was aiming for as near to £600 as possible and managed to get around £650 if I go for free delivery.

Originally I was going to go for the Corsair H50, or H60 as the H50 seems to have disappeared from the site, but as I won't be overclocking (yet, maybe) I doubt I will need it and will purchase it at a later date when I have some more funds to improve cooling and noise.

So, have I picked a good set of components and would a H50/60 be a good choice on top of the package?

looks good, are u planning on going crossfire sometime in the future? if you are not then u can drop down the mobo to a cheaper model.

I have not made my mind up yet so thought it best to future proof and have the possibility there.

One question that just came to mind when you asked that is will that PSU support crossfire? If not is there a similar priced one that does?

RAM you specced in your first build won't run at 1.5v (apparently) so can't be used with Sandybridge.

XFX PSU Stu linked to is much better, and made be Seasonic so guaranteed to be reliable :p

Seagate Barracuda is the fastest mech HDD around, so again a better chouce

This PSU has four PCI_E connectors, two per GPU.
Just had a quick look at the 5870 vs. 6950 and there does not seem to be much difference in the benchmarks. Is there a significant difference in performance between the two cards?

Also is there a reason for the RAM change?

I fully trust you have reasons for the changes, I would just like to understand the reasons behind them as I am obviously not up with the latest and greatest :)

I dont think it does, but this one does

Thanks :)

Thanks, having done a bit of research I decided to go for the 6950. Also changed the RAM and HDD for the reasons Cookeh gave, although I kept the original optical drive as I need a writer.

I also kept the 300 case as my house mate has it and it is a very nice case.

The ocz ram will work in sandy bridge. At c8 timings it runs at 1.55-1.65v but if you change the timings to c9, it can run at 1.45-1.55v. If you wouldn't be bothered to fiddle about with it get the ram that was suggested above.

I got nothing against these easy fit water cooling solutions, a similar/lower price heatsink will achieve the same or less temps.

But with RAM such as the Ripjaws, the height of the fins on the heatspreaders can interfere with a lot of these aftermarket heatsinks, the Kuhler/H50/60 will have no issues such as this, as the water pump/block is compact and doesn't overhang the ram slots.

You will have lower noise and temps with one of the water cooling solutions from Corsair/Antec:)
