How does my spec look?

Hi guys,

I want to build a small pc that will sit in the unit under my TV. It will be mainly used as a plex server, blu-ray player (3d and 2d) and possibly if I can work it out I'd like to connect freesat to it. I may also play some occasional games on it but it's main purpose would not be a games machine. I'm looking at the following spec and would appreciate any opinions.

I have a large exteral nas device so I am only thinking about a SSD in the case. This is the spec I am looking at:

Shuttle SZ77R5
Intel Core i7-3770K CPU
Corsair CML16GX3M2A1600C10 16GB (2x8GB) DDR3 1600 Mhz
Samsung 840 EVO 120GB 2.5 inch Basic SATA SSD
LG BH16NS40.AUAR10B 16x SATA Internal BD-RW

I haven't included an additional graphics card as that would use both my PCIe slots?

All comments welcome.

What clients are you going to have? An IB/Haswell i7 should be good for transcoding four or five 1080p streams concurrently; an exceptional circumstance. You'll likely have clients that play the formats you require. If you only require a single transcode, even the most basic Pentium will suffice. I presume you've picked the 3770K because you already have it?

I got a G3258k for the same job, and at £46 even that is overkill
Plus you probably have twice as much RAM than you need

Thanks for the feedback guys, after discussion on another forum too I scaled back the processor and memory and also went for newer model shuttle, spec now looks like this:

Shuttle SZ87R6 Barebone PC
Intel Core i5 i5-4690K CPU
Samsung840 EVO 250GB 2.5 inch SSD
LGBH16NS40.AUAR10B 16x SATA Internal BD-RW
KFA2 GeForce GTX 750Ti Razor 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card (Single slot)
Corsair CMZ8GX3M2A1600C9 Vengeance 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 1600 Mhz CL9

It was also mentioned that I could go for the i5-4690 instead of the K model processor but I only saw a £10 difference in the price so I wondered if it was worth downgrading for so little saving. Also added the single slot graphics card so at least in theory I have a slot left for double satellite receiver card.

Any comments?

That's a lot more sensible - how are you going to cool that CPU once you've overclocked it?

Still worth considering how important gaming really is, coz you could spend half that if you don't really need to game on it.
