For engaging in what could be construed as an illegal activity? I've spent a while looking around government sites trying to find information on reporting a company for, but I just can't find anything.

Do you have an internal whistleblowing policy? That would always be the first point of call (unless you're convinced the issue goes right to the top).

Failing that, it depends what kind of activity is involved who is the most appropriate group to report it to.

Anonymous call to Crimestoppers? I'm sure they'll direct it to the right place.

Edit - anything good btw? Espionage, toxic waste dumping, kidnapping, extortion, plots to blow up parliament etc..?

It's an SME, with under 20 employees. So it pretty much is at the top :p.

Why don't you try deal with this internally first...
Because it isn't possible.

i guess it depends on the activity. if it's price fixing or something similar then the office of fair trading would be a good bet, or if it's fraud or something like that then try the police or trading standards. the health and safety executive might also be a good place to go if the activity is dangerous.

Straight to the police or blackmail.

Only 2 options you have really if you're determined not to turn a blind eye to it.

This really does wildly depend on the issue in question as the authority to report it with will differ depending on what it is.

That makes it a lot more difficult. As I said, depends what the problem is where to start, police, trading standards, competition commission etc are all options depending on the problem.

The public whistleblowing link is useful, thanks.

Indeed, it's a rather sensitive issue though as I'm sure you can appreciate, so not particularly keen to go into detail as of yet.

If by reporting and the police investigating and causing the place to shut and you losing your job then i wouldnt bother. Just make sure anything you personally do isnt dodgy and you will be fine if they do get investigated somehow anyway.

Or line up a new job and then dump them in it, but remember your mates there ( if you have any ) may loose their jobs as well.

It depends in what way it is illegal. If it is anti-competitive then there is the OFT, if they're doing something otherwise illegal the police is an option but maybe a tip to a paper (if it's interesting/big enough) would work. If you have any documents which wouldn't obviously be tracked to you, you could post them on wikileaks.

If you know about it an it's illegal then not doing anything could land you in trouble too (probably unlikely though unless you run the company or are high up).
