How does the iDisk actually work and what does it do?

I've ticked the box to sync my iDisk and I have a new strangely pink icon on the desktop but what does it actually do and how does it do it? What do I get access to and where and why would I want to?

So is the desktop icon pointing to the online space or the local copy? If the online one, where do I find the local copy?

If your idisk sync is on then you have a mirror folder on both your local drive and your drive online.

Yes, I know that, but what you've said hasn't actually answered either of my questions
