How does the P5N-E do with RAM overclocking?

I am thinking of getting this board along with a C2D E6600 and some GeIL 2GB (2x1GB) PC6400C4 800MHz Ultra Low Latency DDR2 memory.

After reading some reviews of the board some mentioned bad memory overclocking. They also mentioned that this might be sorted with future BIOS updates. Can anyone tell me if this is the case or not? I believe that the GeIL memory is supposed to clock well so I would like a board that can cope with it.

If the board cant clock memory well, what other boards should I look into?

Thanks.

Current GeIL PC6400 Ultra doesn't seem as good for overclocking as the stuff that was being sold before Christmas.

That aside, the issue with the P5N-E SLi is when you hit FSBs in excess of 1000 (500FSB CPU) and beyond. It has been done (OC_A64 had his Crucial Anniversary running at 600 I think and I can do 550/1100FSB with mine so it's not a problem really.

The Intel 965 boards are supposed to be good RAM clocking boards, but they can't run 1T, while the 650i boards can.

It's really swings and roundabouts. The ASUS P5B/-E, Gigabyte S3/DS3/DS4 are all excellent clockers and you wouldn't be unhappy with any of them. If you want SLI though, then the P5N-E SLI is the choice I reckon.

I was originally dead set on the DS3, but the on board firewire and also the 1333mhz support (may be on latest ds3 editions) is swaying me slightly... DS3 is a couple of quid cheaper and I seriosly cannot choose!

I've been upto 950+ on the RAM with no bother, will try higher when I have a bench session this afternoon.

Problem with the P5N-E is the Vdroop. Its a pain in the backside.

No pencil mods & such available for the P5N-E yet?

Thanks for the info. I bit the bullet and bought one of these today with some other stuff.

I have heard about the Vdroop so thanks for the pencil mod tip.

Ta.
