Whilst travelling up the M6 last night, I'm in lane 1, trundling along at x mph on an empty motorway. I come across a Silver Golf 1.4 TSI doing x-10 mph, in the 3rd lane!

So I swoop on out there with the intention of waiting till he moved left and I can overtake. Flash at him a lot and he eventually moves left, I begin to pass, and he puts his foot down, the plank thinks I want to race! Annoyed by the prospect of pratting around, I apply 1 inch more throttle to pass, the guy looks 14 years old and has spikey hair. After I'm passed I move back to lane one, and he goes back to lane 3!

I can only assume he has just passed his test, it's mums car, and he thinks he is in the "fast lane". Also this International engine of the year is pretty gutless.

It's because people have no idea how to use a motorway. It should be part of the driver training before the cretins are allowed out onto 'em.

Oh, and another one, a mile or so before I had to wait behind someone in a clio for a minute while he tried to indicate to the guy in the Jag XF in the middle lane that he is a ****er.

I never flash when I want someone to get out of the way. This will indicate to young people that you want to race as a few video games have that technique to begin a race.

Only time I have ever done it is when a really old couple were driving along an empty dual carriageway at 50mph in the outside lane. I don't undertake and I don't flash so it was one or the other.. on this instance I had to do both as the driver was totally clueless.

should have just blown past him in the far left lane if the motorway was empty. He sounds like a complete tard lol. Chances are he did think flash flash "race on" lol

An alternate method is to sit on the offside and indicate on the offside . I believe this is used in Germany. I find just sitting in the offside position will usually make people ware and move over.

Really???

Do not overtake on the left or move to a lane on your left to overtake. In congested conditions, where adjacent lanes of traffic are moving at similar speeds, traffic in left-hand lanes may sometimes be moving faster than traffic to the right. In these conditions you may keep up with the traffic in your lane even if this means passing traffic in the lane to your right. Do not weave in and out of lanes to overtake.
Not really.

I never thought people would be stupid enough to think that means race. :/

As peterattheboro has said though, I don't undertake or flash my lights unless I absolutely must because there is no chance of the person in front moving to the correct lane. Had it on the M4 with an Espace, I was happily cruising along at ~70mph, overtaking some people, I then go to overtake someone in the middle lane, only to be sat behind doddery old fool at ~60mph. I flashed, others flashed me even, they got bored undertook, I persisted in hopes that the person would see sense, in the end I had to give up and undertake . :/
