Hi, its been 2 years since I last upgraded so I'm not up to speed with whats currently the best buys. Not planning to buy for a couple of weeks but I'd like an idea if this is any good or can be improved, cheers:

Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 LGA775 'Wolfdale' 3.00GHz (1333FSB) - Retail (£110.44)

Asus P5Q Pro Intel P45 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard
(£84.59)

GeIL 2GB (2x1GB) PC2-6400C4 800MHz Black Dragon DDR2 Dual Channel Kit (GB22GB6400C4DC) x2 (£56.38)

Powercolor ATI Radeon HD 4870 512MB GDDR5 TV-Out/Dual DVI/HDMI (PCI-Express) - Retail (£175.06)

Tuniq Tower 120-LFB CPU Cooler (Socket 478/754/939/940/AM2/LGA775 (£35.24)

Samsung SpinPoint F1 750GB SATA-II 32MB Cache - OEM (HD753LJ) (£62.26)

Total : £534.48

Budget is about 550 max, pretty much only need cpu+cooler, mobo, memory. The hdd is just extra because I feel my old ide drives are on the way out. Some questions, will the tuniq fit in an old chieftec dragon case? I think I've seen it written but can anyone confirm the P5Q has an IDE channel?

Currently running e6300 1.8ghz, gigabyte ds3, 2gb ram, x1800xt.

Thanks.

I have a P5Q

Great Mobo so far for me

Ditch the IDE, you may aswell get SATA , the difference is only pence usually, if that
And yes, the Mobo has ONE IDE Channel, and 6 Sata i think.

I specced something almost exactly like it for a friend about a week ago. Now he happily sits and games away all day :)

I wouldn't bother with any upgrades apart from the grahpics card, and the hard drive if you need it. Your current system is definitely fast enough.

Yea why don't you overclock your current system?

Get Sata drives
Upgrade graphics
Add another 2Gb
and get the TT

I used to have a DS3 and E6300 clocked to 3.15Ghz easy.

Cheers guys, my e6300 is oc'd to 3ghz at the moment. The real reason I'm upgrading is because I managed to electrocute my computer a while back and its had power problems ever since, even after replacing the psu.
