Hi all!

I am building a system for gaming/development, also I require it to run multiple instances of some fairly intensive apps 24/7.

Please let me know if there is anything you would change or add and whether it will all fit in the case etc, i'll be looking to do a basic overclock aswell!

Coolmaster Storm Scout Case
Coolmaster Silent PRo 700W Power Supply
Intel Core i7 920 2.66ghz 8mb cache
ASUS P6X58D-E Motherboard
Coolmaster V8
Patriot Viper 6GB DDR3 1600MHZ RAM
PALIT GTX460 1024MB Graphics Card
Samsung 1 TB F1 Hard Drive
Sony Optiarc AD-7241S 24x DVD±RW SATA Lightscribe Optical Drive

Budget around 1k.

Cheers

i'd look at the AMD x6 processor with an 8xx series mobo, 8gb of memory.

then maybe drop in an ssd hard drive with a samsung f3 1tb for storage.

Not sure if it makes much difference in performance, but you can get the 2GB 460 for £199

Doesn't make any difference in performance unless running multiple displays and extreme resolutions that require more powerful cards.

Would suggest going for a gigabyte or MSI 1GB 460 card as they have quieter and far better coolers.

OK thanks for advise, so I might take the AMD route, using money saved for a SSD (my first!) revised spec below:

AMD Phenom II X6 1055T 2.8GHz 9MB Cache Socket AM3 Retail Box Processor -
Cooler Master V8 CPU Cooler (Socket 940/AM2/AM2+/AM3/LGA775/LGA1366) -
Gigabyte GA-890GPA-UD3H 890GX Socket AM3 HDMI DVI VGA Out 8 Channel Audio ATX Motherboard -
OCZ Reaper Low-Latency 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 12800C6 (1600MHz) Dual-Channel -
OCZ 60GB Vertex 2E SSD 2.5" SATA-II Read 285MB/s Write 275MB/s 50,000 IOPS -
Samsung SpinPoint F3 1TB SATA-II 32MB Cache - OEM (HD103SJ) -
MSI GTX 460 Cyclone OC Edition 1GB GDDR5 Dual DVI Mini HDMI Out PCI-E Graphics Card -
Coolmaster Scout Storm + Coolermaster Silent Pro 700W Modular PSU -

Will the V8 fit? For 10quid more i can get the CoolIT Eco A.L.C. CPU Watercooler will I get better performance/temps with that?

Also an alternative motherboard is:
Asus M4A89GTD PRO/USB3 AMD 890GX (Socket AM3) DDR3 Motherboard [90-MIBBV5-G0EAY00Z] - 119.99 Vs 105 pounds for the gigabyte.

If you are not planning to overclock the coolmaster hyper 212+ is nearly as good as the V8 and much cheaper if you are overclocking there are much better coolers than the V8 for around the same price have a look at http://www.frostytech.com/top5heatsinks.cfm you can now get the best one in the UK see http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B003CMLPWA and I don't recommend the CoolIT one at all I don't think its even as good as the 212+.

how about the coolmaster V6GT is it better than the v8? I like the bling of the coolmaster range think it will fit in with the black case nicely but that Spire TherMax Eclipse II looks excellent value/performance hmmmm.

don't need a 890 chipset motherboard with a nvidia card, get a 870 or 880 instead.

Good point regarding the motherboard, if I go for Gigabyte GA-880GA-UD3H AMD 880G

will I just be loosing out on the ATI crossfire functionality? I don't intend having more than one graphics card at any point.
