How does "wake on USB" work?

I was looking through my Dell's laptop BIOS and it had this feature and decided to see what it does. Turned it on and then put the laptop in standby. Stuck a USB stick in the port and it didn't do anything, I guess this is not how it works

. Anyone know how or what makes use of this feature? Cheers for the help.

I think you can set it in the bios to turn on when you press certain keys for example

Believe its for usb mice & keyboards so when you press a key, wiggle the mouse it will wake up

Depends on the board, but you use hotkeys etc to boot the PC aswell as the power button, my buddy does this using CTRL + F1, me i'm happily sat near enough to the PC to extend my arm out to the button...

Just spent the last 2 days working on a DFI Lanparty (first DFI i've worked on), and it has the USB wake features. Off topic a little, sorry...

My board does it to, its nothing special though really.......
