If you throw a full co2 cylinder (like off an air pistol) in to the water it sinks. But surely there is enough air inside it to make it float

Of course it's not.

But if you want a quick explanation

The co2 will be in solid form or heavily compressed, co2 is heavier than h2o. Also factor in the metal casing this will make it much heavier than water.

If the metal is heavier then how come they are attached on life jackets, and when the air comes out it floats? It would still be the same weight though.
