How exactly can a shape be 'fun'?

Noticed this on some sweets I am eating, and recall seeing it on a number of products.

"Wholegrain cereal in fun shapes"
"Fun shaped baked crisps"
"Fun sized chocolate bar"

What exactly makes any of these things fun? (inb4 ****plugs and rabbits being fun shapes :p)

Is it that the size/shape makes it a viable toy?

Pretty sure we've all been told not to play with out food.

Stupid advertising!

Are you seriously asking this and want it explained or are you being purposely obtuse and pretentious?

I would think anyone of adult age and IQ could understand how these products are being marketed in comparison to their alternatives.

I can explain in detail if required, but I hope not.

Don't be so obtuse,

much like the angles in this hilariously fun Hexagon.

Brutal!

I would imagine fun shapes is a simple term for appealing to kids.

Has any child every been turned of junk food because the shape was too boring? :p

Kids will happily eat their salty/sugary crap regardless of shape, so unless it can be fun in a practical sense, it's all marketing BS.

I mean, what makes a half-size Mars bar more fun than a full sized one?

Everyone knows fun shapes are best shapes.

No one would have eaten turkey twizzlers if they were just a mushy blob on their plate, twizzle them and you've got a taste sensation!

I tend to think of these as being "Kid sized", but without alienating the market... It's very silly though, for reasons you've listed above.

Why would eating a small chocolate bar be any more fun than from a large one.

Marketers like to associate simple words with products that are aimed at children so that they affect the child's subconscious. The meaning behind the word "fun" on children's products is to associate having fun with consuming their product.

At the risk of making this a political argument, i will say that Toblerone shape is most definitely NOT fun.

Hurts the roof of my mouth (i refuse to snap any chocolate bar, if it can be snapped, it can be shared )

Flying saucers are fun shaped!

They are like the crappiest tasting sweet but no one will notice because they are fun!

Or those insanely mahooooosive multi coloured jelly snakes

See, plenty of examples of fun shaped stuff.

Cotton candy is literately bad tasting, unnaturally flavourless sugar. Yet they make it seem like cotton and so has become a arcade and funfair staple. Hell the novelty of the stuff even balances out the fact it dissolved before you can even eat it.
