How far away are we from...

Bluetooth keyboards/mice work with quite a few of the current generation, HDMI out is on a few phones. Docks are something Motorola are investigating.

^ The Atrix essentially runs Ubuntu when docked, the N8 is from a different era. :D

Ice cream and Windows 8 phones will become your 'everyday' PC.

??

If the phone has a UBS host you can hook up all sorts of things to a mobile phone.

My TG01 is USB Host capable and so I can run many different devices, like keyboards, external drives/storage and even an ultra sound device!!!

(not sure about a monitor btw).

Being able to stick a monitor/keyb/mouse on a smart phone? Is this doable now? :D

The galaxy S II does this right now. It can play FPS games this way too.

See the video posted in the Accessories thread and I'm due to upload my own this weekend :p

Now comes a time when phone and PC are almost one, you have 16GB of internal storage and up to 64GB of SD card storage and:

- Able to output at 1080p of everything on the phone mirrored on the HDTV.
- Able to connect a keyboard and mouse wirelessly to the phone.
- Able to pair a bluetooth controller to the phone to play games.
- Able to watch 1080p movies.

We're talking about running a fully featured OS on phones now.
Using Symbian (and a 600MHz ARM11 cpu) with a monitor, mouse/keyboard will be a somewhat pointless exercise, no?

The first phone I saw this demonstrated on was the Nokia N95 back in 2007.

Admittedly it was a Bluetooth keyboard and mouse but Quake 3 was still very playable. :)

The Motorola Atrix is definitely the most usable solution so far though.

That looks 'kin epic!

warning, pimping own companies products:

Orange have this for free on some deals currently, if you're interested phone up and say you heard about a deal where they throw in the dock. your mileage may vary.
