I realised this last night whilst searching for an email. but i can pretty much trace the last 2 and half years of my life back through my emails.

The first email on this machine is dated 09/01/2010.

A quick scan through the list shows emails containing:

  • My First formal job offer are leaving Uni
  • Moving into my first rental property
  • Various emails for my now ex-girlfriend trying to help her find work in the area
  • Complaints to landlords
  • Finding another rental property, with ex-GF this time
  • Looking for a new job
  • Finding new job, quitting old one
  • Finding another rental property, having now moved exactly where my ex-GF wanted to be
  • Breaking up with ex-GF
  • Moving in with pole-dancer
  • Moving out from crazy psycho pole-dancer girls flat, into my own place.
  • Ongoing financials quarrels with ex. (we had a shared bank account for bills)
  • PPI refund :D
  • Snowboarding Holiday
  • Arguments with landlord
  • Plenty Of Fish messages
  • Buying a new build Bovis home
  • Plenty Of Fish messages
  • Mortgage stuff
  • Plenty Of Fish messages
  • Exchange of contracts and confirmed completion.
  • Plenty Of Fish messages

I have obviously ignored all the usual stuff like ebay emails, newsletters, and offers of penis enlargement. :D

It kinda freaks me out that, i effectively have a diary sitting here on my PC, and i can go back 2 years and see exactly what I was thinking about, what i was doing etc.

How far back do your emails go? And what gems lie in wait?

I never delete emails (apart from junk), and I've always had the same email address. Mine go back about fifteen years now

I would unironically watch the hell out of this if it were a movie.

21st of may 2011.

I don't like keeping 100s of pages of emails. I would love to be able to remove old posted history of me and traces from google etc. When I search for my name I get **** from 8 odd years ago

I don't think my emails cover very many topics, but looking back they cover stuff like:
preparation for 'expedition' to Bolivia,
University applications,
lots of old Ogame adverts,
Funny websites and lists of recommended south park episodes from a friend,
some stuff for an English school project (we had to make an advert for some trainers, I wish so much that I could find the actual video we made... anyway, this was an attached document)
ENGLISH ANALYSIS
IDEAS
Our first idea was rather simple. We would take people from the past like Winston Churchill and Julius Caesar walking round in trainers, showing them as being suitable for anyone who wants to walk in the spotlight of fame. This was slightly changed to be showing these famous people, even though they may have had a poor fighting ability, fighting of their worst enemies, like Churchill fighting of the German army, and Caesar fighting of the people who tried to kill him, by using karate each time. Then it would show the modern era, and a certain karate person fighting of others. This one person would wear distinctive clothing and would use other suitable things inside the karate range, all of which were being advertised. This idea was meant to show how well all these famous people could fight after coming to our shop, buying the necessary things. We advertised a karate range as our resources person was able to bring in numerous karate things. But once again this was changed, due to not enough time, not enough resources to fully describe the characters played without using any words, and people commenting that “It sounds unrealistic because even if these famous people went to this shop, they would not have become masters at karate”. We told these certain people that it was just an affect, not a historical essay, but them being our target audience, we decided to change this idea. Our next idea was that two members of the army would be beaten up by an unarmed karate master, using our produce. We planned that this may have taken two lessons to film, but on the first day of filming, a slight technical hitch allowed us no time for filming that day, leaving us practising our routine. We then went home, thinking up last minute ideas for the last day of filming. We came back the next day, all with ideas. One of the members of the group however had an idea which stood out above the rest. That was because it was simple, catchy, and in our view also humorous. It also required few props but certain camera angles were needed. The camera was placed on the floor, only showing feet as though they had a life of their own. The camera was placed in the same position, so the feet could be shown going of and on the screen, describing some sort of chase. The new Nike-street range of cause won the chase, getting rid of the other shoe before posing in front of the camera. This showed this shoe as being faster and cooler than the ordinary shoe. A school shoe was shown racing the trainer as this Nike street range is showing that it can be used for footwear used anywhere, but mainly for people who want trendy trainers and who are sporty or on the go. Only natural sound was used, like the shuffling on feet, to give our advert the feeling of reality. We felt that music put over our advert would make it seem more of a fantasy than reality. For the same reason, few words were used. We felt that as it is showing the life of a shoe, they cannot talk, so putting words in would allow fantasy to kick in. We also thought that only two words were needed to be said to describe the product, “nike” as being the people we are supplying to, and “street” to describe shoes you may walk around in, but staying trendy. The advert was short because a short snappy advert made good first impressions and were memorable. The posing foot also showed the nike logo, so people would at least remember the logo shown.
Messages to a friend, some about his desire to see the film 'The Holy Mountain'.:confused:

It is nice looking back actually, just remembering *my life*...

The oldest email I can find is one from my dad on 11/11/05: (day before my Birthday, and in the bird flu era)

The oldest one on my second account is some ftp username and password for the school boat club website as I volunteered to do it.

Quite a long way back, but my hotmail seems to of been pruned (my first email account) as stuff that should be there no longer is :(

Many many years on my own email host though.

2007 on current email, only back to 2009 on previous email it seems to get pruned regularly probably due to the 300+ spam emails it gets a week  Still got all msn chat logs from 07/08/09 haven't used it in ages... Also got quite a few IRC logs from around 2008/09 aswell

All makes for pretty amusing reading.

The furthest I have is way back in March 2003, and is one of those surveys that people constantly filled out/asked you to fill out back on msn. Not sure why I still have that to be honest! Though looking through now it seems I got precisely zero emails through the entirety of 2008 :p

I have emails going back years on my gmail account, Including emails I sent to and from my job as a voice and data engineer(Sheffield university) I havent worked there in YEARS!!

I would have emails dating back further, but hotmail suspends your account after so long. And although i can still use the email address to log into my msn account, if i go into my hotmail account. It's empty. Infact it treats me like a new user.
