hi guys,

Had my processor in my system for a while now, given it chance to bed in. Got it upto 3.06ghz the other day which it didn't seem to mind, that was through the extreme tweaker setting in the bios of my mobo (asus striker extreme).

This is a pic of my processor as standard.

I've read the stickies and other posts but wanted to get a bit more advice before I blow it up. What sort of fsb and vcore ratings would I be able to go up to and what program could I use? I have 3GB Elpida DDR2 1066 DIMM-PC8500 ram.

thanks for any advice

Hi, what you doing up this hour? Anyway, first monitor your temps (coretemp or TAT are good), then download Prime95 to stress your cpu.
Have a look at coretemp to see what the 't-junction' is, if its 85 then people recomend keeping it under 65.
As for volts, depends on your cooling, you will get to hot before to much v-core.
Just up the FSB, prime it for stability, if it fails up the v-core.
There are lots of other people on this forum who can give you more advice.

If your tjunction is set to 100c then add 15c to the temps you currently have.

Either that or download and install the new version of coretemp as the tjunction has been adjusted correctly.

ok cheers mate. got it running at 3.2ghz with a multiplier of 12, any more and it won't post, what voltages/timings do you recommend? my cooling is an Akasa ak-961 linky here

My tjunction temp reads 100c aswell so i think thats bugged as core 0 and 1 are at 30 and 31 :S .... well i hope so lmao

yeah, tried the beta version and that still reads 100c. I'm just trying to work out why I can't seem to get past 3.2ghz, think if I can change the fsb that might help. any suggestions?

I use the Akasa 961 :)

Got an [email protected] with idle temps of 30c, load 54c.

If it will not go past 3.2Ghz, up the voltage a little. Just in increments though so you have a better idea what stable voltage you have. Dont go above 1.5v though ;)

I read here somewhere that T-Junction in coretemp is the MAX temperature u can operate at before the CPU shuts down... on duel core this is 85c and on quad 100c.. also I believe I read that the processor starts to throttle at around 10c below the T-Junction temp.. maybe someone more in the “no” can clarify this!

Because you have 4mb of cache on each core and not the usual 2mb, cpuz may be reading it as a quad core and not a core2duo so anyone correct me if i'm wrong but you still need to add 15c onto your temps.

at idle it's around 42-43, at load it's in the mid 60's,sometimes hitting 70, but I think if I want to go any higher I'm going to have to get some serious cooling

i think you can get abit more out of it maybe try 1.4V and up multiplier. or you could set the multiplier back to 10 and up the FSB. or it doesn't like high multipliers :P

ok thanks for that, how do I adjust the fsb on my board asus striker extreme? I know there's an extreme tweaker in the bios and something about fsb and memory.
