How far can you overclock this CPU?

I was wondering if anyone could tell me how far you can overclock an AMD X4 955 BE 125W CPU with the stock cooler that comes with it?

I know it will not be very much but i was hoping for a small performance increase until i can get a 3rd party CPU cooler.

Well you should get at least 3.4ghz

yeah i know, im getting an aftermarket cooler in a couple months as i've just spent all of my money on the other components that i am assembling tomorrow, but i just wanted to know how far i could push it on the stock cooler until then.

When the max temps you want to go to are reached. It may be an excellent clocker, it may not. Only way is to try!

Yeah, i will be trying it tomorrow hopefully. In your opinion, what is the max temp it should be running at? Im very new to this as you will have noticed.

Apparently the stock AMD cooler is loud. I never tried mine though. I would say you should definitely get 3.5ghz, 3.6 if you're lucky.

How long are you expecting to wait for a new cooler?

the very max is 62c so i say keep it below 55c

If i can find a decent one for under £30, then about a week. If not, probably about a month

62c?! Really? wow, thats low.

Edit, Just read this:

The max heat these chips can tolerate without risking damage is 62C. However, instability and crashes can be caused all the way back into the 50-55C range.

Im amazed they take so little temp.

Yeah I wouldn't really risk it at 3.6ghz. Overclock when you have a better cooler.

Oh and the AMD stock cooler is very loud btw.

I think i will just give it a slight boost to 3.40GHz until i get the new cooler in a couple weeks. I'm on holiday from saturday for a week anyway.

What cooler could you recommend for under £25?

but because it's out of stock then my next choice would be the one you posted.

and if you could stretch your budget even further then I'd recommend a A Titan Fenrir for 32.99.

That cooler master one looks very good.

The very max i will have spend is £27.50+postage as i literally have next to no money at all

haha fair enough, well the tranquilo is a very good cooler for the price. The cooler master has been out of stock for weeks thou so I don't know when it's going to be back in.
