Hi I have the fx - 4100 processor and an h-80i cooler. Is there a limit to how far i can overclock the processor whilist remaining stable.

I ask this because the cpu standard clock speed is 3.60ghz but with the asus software it automatically overclocked itself to 3.9ghz. When i went into the bios to try and do some more overclocking the bios wouldn't let me increase the multiplier above 35............................. have i got something wrong with the overclocking or is there a maximum that some cpu's can be overclocked ?????

Any help would be really useful and keep in mind that i haven't ever overclocked before.

With the FX4100 the fsb at stock is 200 Mhz, a multiplier of 35 would take that to 7Ghz without touching the fsb, which is probably beyond safe limits in terms of the voltage needed for it to be stable.

Unless your on LN2 or similar cooling you will not boot at x35 multi.

Processor frequency is FSB x multi. Stock FSB is 200 so you need to try 20 multi first for 4.0ghz and adjust voltages to get this stable, then 21 and so on. Each time stress testing and monitoring temps.
