How far should I go?

Well it's time to upgrade at least my GPU but the question is should I go even further or just sit it out until kepler/ivy bridge etc.

My current setup is roughly (I'm at work so from memory):

i7-920
Foxconn Flaming Blade mobo
6GB DDR3
2 x 4890's
2 x 500GB Samsung HDD
Corsair 850W PSU
GPUs and CPU all watercooled in an old gigabyte aurora case I hacked apart for the purpose.

So i was thinking of at least a 7950 and 12GB RAM but is it worth going the whole way at this stage and upgrading mobo and cpu to take advantage of a SATA3 SSD drive (my mobo is SATA2 only I think) and maybe 16GB RAM?

Or would you just upgrade the GPU and perhaps the RAM and thrash the life out of the rest for another year or so?

I game at 1920*1080 and have BF3 and Skyrim but my poor GPUs don't cope with them when the action gets intense.

Was considering eyefinity too but not so sure it's worth it.

Cheers

I'd overclock your CPU, still a great one and fine for games, and get a nice new GPU :)
Ivy bridge isn't too far away now really, and considering that is still a fine CPU, better to save the money IMO. The GPU will make a nice difference :)

Also an SSD is always recommended, even on SATAII. It'll be limited but still faster and make windows boot faster etc... and you can keep it when you do upgrade the mobo etc..

This pretty much

With regards to eyefinity, I wouldn't bother, don't think I could stand those bezels:p (Not to mention that you need some serious gpu power if you want to keep the setting maxed)

Thanks for the advice.

Got myself an SSD which works a treat. Will get either a 680 or 7970 (depending on price/performance etc) and maybe try a 27" 3D or a 2560x1440. Eyefinity sounds a bit gimicky all round.
