How fast a cpu do you need for gaming sli

I was wondering how fast you should run your cpu to get the best out of 2 980 gpu's in sli.

I have been messing about with my system and now have 2 kraken g10 coolers on the gpus both with cosair 90 aio kits and 2 140mm fans on them The gpus run fab at 50 full load but now my cpu has gone from low 60's to mid 70's .

My case is a phantom 630 the cpu is a 4770k haswell oc'd to 4.4 atm and its cooled by the hi110 cooler. I can hit 4.5 with it but i need 1.25 voltage and after 40 mins of battle feild 4 it starts to hit the top 70's.

4.4ghz is more than enough on a 4770k. You don't even need to run it at 4.4ghz to make the most of sli.

Your CPU will be fine and temps under 80 degrees under load are acceptable for a cpu

Delid your CPU and drop a good 15-20c.

Why are you asking this when you have everything you need to check yourself?

All you need to do is record the FPS in some game/benchmark with different CPU speeds.

I'd try stock speeds and 4.4 first and see how much difference there is, then go up to 4.5 say and compare again.

You'll get different results in different games/progs. Also at the very least you should record min, avg, and max FPS.

Would love if you tried this and shared the results actually.

i always like to recommend hex cores if your going sli as the two extra cores manage sli whilst games only really use 4 cores+ht

Well I dropped to stocks of 3.5 ran atilla bench and got 36.7fps battelfeild 4 bench I got 135. Went to 4.4 and atilla got 38.9 and bf4 got 119.

Played 6 multiplayer matches of bf4 3.5 lowest I saw was 78fps highest 130. On 4.4 80 fps to 132 on the same maps. So really not a massive amout between the two from my limited testing

I found a stock 4790k to be fine with sli 780. On that chip only one core hits 4.4ghz using turbo. Ran an awful lot cooler too compared to being at 4.7ghz.

Screen Rez is at 1440p. Had a play around on gta5 3.5 was about 55 ish in the city 4.4 was 58 ish . Guess ocing is good to a point but when you hit that point only good for benching .
