According to the test 338, which is faster than I expected. It normally takes me ages to get through a book as I like to fully understand what I'm reading.
I suppose reading speed has a lot to do with the nature of the text, some novels you can speed read through and quite easily fully comprehend the story. But text books or other learning materials you would naturally read slower imo, especially if you are struggling to understand the theories/explanations.
I read a lot....like an exceptional amount. I think the article was making the point that practice will train the brain to read and comprehend faster, much like physical training makes you faster or stronger....
I was a bit disappointed about the poor comprehension score though...maybe I need more practice.

I read slowly but with high comprehension, so my 284wpm with 100% comprehension isn't too far from what I expected.
Part of my job involves peer-review of scientific publications, so I am used to being careful. I imagine that I'm probably under 100wpm for such documents, but then I tend to spend a fair amount of time considering and digesting each paragraph. The same is probably true when I'm reading papers for my own purposes.
It's pretty obvious. I even make the distinction between 'do' and 'can' in the OP. I wanted people to do the test honestly, as they would normally read, not attempt to read faster than they've ever read before as it defeats the purpose of doing the test. For instance I 'could' read at over 400 words per minute, but in reality I don't.
444 with 100% comprehension. I'm quite used to having to pick out figures/data/conclusions from journals though, I read novels in an entirely different way.
