How fast is fast enough?

I love the way all the people in here with slow cars are saying how yea, they'd need 4.5 seconds to 60 etc etc.

No way do you NEED that level of performance - 5, 6, 7 or even 8 seconds to 60 is still pretty quick.

It's all relevant; I have as much fun in my Shuv at 50mph on a B-road as I've had in my dad's Audi at 100mph+ on the same road.

As I've said previously, have a go in a Spridget; 30mph feels like 80mph.

i wouldnt want to feel like 30 was 80... 80 would feel stupid fast :p

I'd say most sport bikes will give you 'too much', my Gixxer 1000 accelerates so quickly in the first 2 gears, full chat you feel like you are just hanging on for the ride, and your brain can't quite keep up with what's coming through your eyes... and they also corner very very well, the sensation is amazing, feedback is felt through your arms/butt in a really 'connected' way. Although an elise or similar may actually just pip it for cornering 'g', the reward and danger element of the bike is hard to beat..

Autocar did their 0-100-0 tests, and the GSXR1000 was 0.4 seconds quicker then the Bugatti Veyron from 60 - 100 MPH!.

From experience, I'd say any 11-12 second 1/4 mile car would be just about quick enough..

Have you BEEN in a Spridget?!

30 feels like 80, 50 feels like 100 and 70 feels like armageddon.

...Although that's due to shoddy English workmanship in an open-topped car that weighs as much as an empty fag packet.

Enough is about 80bhp more than you have now. In the last three years I've gone 145 -> 210 -> 260 -> 325, and I still want more. Sometimes 325 is scary (foot flat to the floor in second on a bumpy country road, and feeling the car scrabbling for grip, even with AWD), bit most time I think: "380-400 would be better".

Id say the R6 I test rode last night was fast enough for me!
Cars wise I'd say Fox's A and B were right. as for blowing anything of, there will always be someone with something faster than you,no matter what you drive, if its possible, someone else has probably done it!

IIRC a nice M3 CSL or similar would do me fine car wise. Maybe a chip and exhaust just to put it away from the other CSL's

I've only driven and owned a 1.4 clio but I have an idea of what my idea racing weekend car would be :) -

Sub 4 seconds
4 wheel drive
Light, small car
grip
Great acceleration throughout all gears
a lot of torque

Some cars that spring to mind which I'd love to own would be the lancia Evo or the Nissan Pulsar GTI-R (modded of course).

An everyday car I'd like the BMW 330D :)

It's not about what you need, the question is about how fast do you want youre car to be :)

I want the VX to have the kind of power that it would be capable of pulling away from a le mans convoy, waving goodbye to the Lambos, Porsches and Ford GTs :)

but top speed is more determined by aerodynamics and maximum power. both of which a VX arent likely to get close to the cars mentioned.

i am assuming that you mean 100mph+ speeds here. :)

A 135 Bhp transit is fast enough to be fun for me.

In fact, the KA is fast enough to be fun in.

I've even got rid of the Merc this week and got an LDV MAXUS because of the hilarious torque steer it suffers from. and the fact i got it on three wheels going round a round about while i had it on loan on saterday.
Yes its built like crap and it will fall to bits, but who cares?

I thought my lightly modded mr2 was quick. 300bhp. 1/4 mile in 13 dead. 0-60 in 4.

Now with a giant turbo strapped to it and 3k worth of engine mods it's fast. I honestly get scared when the turbo kicks in and you seriously have to hold onto the wheel to stop it spitting you out into the nearest lampost.

Fast in a straight line is boring, fast in the twisties is much more fun hence why I now own an Elise :)

Same but S2000. Really love how it is a challenge top drive fast, anyone can drive a 4wd Jap thing fast but hook some corners up right with a nice bit of rear end drifting and its :D Knowing that no computers helped you out and having fun with a engine that likes to rev.

If it can spin up the tyres in 3rd in a straight line, it is powerful enough :p
This only counts in RWD's with fat tyres in the dry, though.

My brothers escort rst now lights up in 3rd, in the dry with a quaife diff. I think it's more than "fast enough" for the chasis!

I'm actually quite scared of that car now. It's peaking at 25psi on a 2.1 zetec.

It depends on the car though.

I have been in 450 bhp escort cossie on brunters, and that felt like it could take more power easily, so probably not fast enough yet...

How fast is fast enough? Can't say in a car, not really a car person.

I brought a Fireblade last Sept and have only really started to ride it properly the last few months due to the weather.

Standard 97 'blade is about 118bhp at back wheel moving 180kgs plus rider sub 3 secs 0-60, got mine Dynojetted as I thought it wasn't quick enough after approx 1 months brief usage up to 128bhp at back wheel and i'm am once again bored with it and want something faster. Going to stick a full race system on it to shave 5kgs or so and add another 8 or so bhp then flog it next summer, got my eye on a priller RSVR.

lol. Nice. What's the spec on it after the additional mods?

i've driven a 600+ bhp cossie on the road and there was no way you could use it on the road properly. Even when the car in front was far away you put your foot down and the next thing you know you have caught it up
