how fast is my RAM?

I bought what I thought was 1066 DDR2 from a member on the MM but when I went to CPUz it's showing the speed as 400???

is this right or how do I check what speed the RAM is that I have?

its 6400 or 800mhz (dual channel)

when u click the memory tab on cpuz what does it say there?
 
Yep, definitely PC6400 800MT/s
The actual clock frequency runs at exactly half of the Effective clock speed. Thus 400MHz is 800MT/s PC6400 memory. Thefore it is not 1066MT/s memory otherwise the clock speed would be 533MHz.

EDIT: Your DRAM Frequency is somewhere in between the two, It's overclocked and is running at the same speed as your FSB, (1:1 Ratio).

You're running them at 896MHz atm. Did it have any heatsinks with stickers on? They usually have the speed and timings written on them.

jedec doesn't go up to 533MHz I think but there is usually an EPP or similar listed in the timings table. I would check the sticks themselves before raising a complaint with the seller (which you should do if they were miss sold).
 
I know its late reply but PC8500 often shows up as PC6400 as they come from same bin, cpu z is not very good at detecting the difference and is actually pretty crap for checking RAM, other than telling you what freq its actually running at it often mislabels it and the SPD tab is next to useless, only way to check for sure is a physical check of the modules
 
If you look at the modules and they say 1066mhz, then you can overclock them to 1066mhz. As far as I know 800mhz is the fastest native speed of DDR2, so they default to that when you first install them.
 
I have the Kingston PC-8500 1066 DDR2 and CPU-Z also shows it as 6400 (400_MHz) but in the BIOS its set to 1066 MHz. I just take what the BIOS is showing as the true speed.
 
It will usually be printed on a sticker on the side of the ram sticks. Cpuz will only show a max of 800mhz in the spd tables, my ocz reaper 1066mhz kit also showed up as 800mhz.

Rob fella,

where in the BIOS is the RAM speed at? I've got the same mobo as you but I can't find it in the BIOS?

its in the Ai Tweaker menu, look for DRAM Timing Control and set to manual then set the timings to the desired speed. Once done, scroll down to the bottom of the same Ai Tweaker menu and set the DRAM Voltage to whats required.

EDIT: Mine is the KHX8500AD2K2/4G kit that has timings of 7-7-7-20 @ 2.2V, yours is probably the KHX8500D2K2/4G kit which has timings of 5-5-5-18 and Voltage of 2.0 - 2.2?
