How fast is 'safe' to overclock an E6600 on the standard intel fan?

no real idea on the speed depends what sort of voltage you have to put through it, to a safe max of 1.4v.

long as the temps dont go over 60 at load it should be fine.

I've got my E6600 up to 3.2Ghz on an Asus p5n32e sli NF680i board , anything higher and i get BSOD :mad:

Personally i never went much over 3ghz when i had an e6600 with the stock cooler. Id reccomend the arctic freezer over the stock cooler.

Cheap as chips and does a good job. Used 1 to cool an e6600 @3.6ghz on a 680i board. load temps of 59'c

I'd be happy with getting 2.8ghz out of this, even 2.6ghz.

A question about the 'RAM divider'...

In the beginners thread "Reduce the multiplier and RAM divider if required so that both are at stock speeds or slightly less."

Not sure what that is telling me.

With the 680i board you have the option to run your memory unlinked. this way you can up the cpu FSB without your memory speed rising as well. I found this guide to be pretty useful for overclocking on a 680i.

Before I do this, I need a new cpu cooler. It's already running at 60c under load.

I've had a good experience with an Arctic before so I may purchase that one there.

Yip the arctic freezer is a pretty good cooler for the price. Btw what are you using to load the cpu and monitor temps.

Core Temp to monitor temps.

Prime 95 to load.

k coretemp is fine but for a dual core cpu id suggest using orthos.

Using it now. Would this tell me if the system is unstable?

The temps are at 63 and 63 degrees now. I should get that cooler soon.

yip orthos small fft test is used to determine stability. and i would definitely replace the cooler. give your cpu a good clean with isopropyl alcohol and use the paste that comes preapplied to the arctic cooler. (arctic mx2 very good stuff) dont do what i did, cleaned it of like a dummy

and used some ancient as5 i had lying about.

Isnt 60 a bit low for max temps on the q6600? I was under the impression you could quite safely go up to 80C or so on these.

Isn't 80 the max it will run at? It wouldn't be good to stress that at 80 degrees for too long id imagine.

For an e6600 i wouldnt want to go above 65'c for a q6600 the general consensus seems to be avoid going over 70'c for an extended period.

Running my e6600 under an AC7 load usually about 50's, stock volts @ 3150

you should be able to run 9x333 with stock volts and the stock cooler, like others said tho 60-65 is a nice target for loads temps.

Mines @ 3.6ghz on a coolermaster 212 which is like 1*c worse than a Freezer 7 for 2 years in october
