How future proof are motherboards?

Hey,

Just wondering, by next year, will I need a new motherboard for the new nvidia cards and intel next cpu?
Cause Im not going to get the 9800's series or the yorkfields. But Im getting a new pc. q6600, x2 8800 gtx, couple tb of hdd, 8gb of ram ddr2.

I wouldn't worry too much about it really. Afterall I am still on a Single Core CPU, and 1Gb of Ram. I am not having any issues, still play all the games ok

Intels next CPU microarchitecture (Nehalem) will require a new CPU socket and therefore motherboard. Nvidia's next GPU family will run fine on PCI Express 2.0 though.

Come December/January Intel's Nehalem architecture CPU will need a new socket, so we will need a new mobo, but I'm sure we will be safe with graphics cards
