How good is a 280x @1080p?

I've got a 280x in my HTPC which is hooked up to a 50" 1080p Plasma. Paired with a 4770K @ 4.2GHz it handles BF4 and Mordor maxed. Mordor does have textures set to High not Ultra though.

most games can be maxxed mordor even runs its almost maxed have to drop to high and still get high fps.

pretty decent for the money/performance.

R9 280X could run a lot of games on maximum detail settings with AA, but not everything. R9 290 is a little more noisy, and power hungry but it's a big enough step up to play near enough everything out there at there maxed, and like I've mentioned before if you sell the games like I did for £30, the card only costs £186 which is a bargain.

Depends what your frame rate expectations are

+1

I recently bought Crysis 3, which must be the most demanding title I have atm, and it turned out that apart from the first section of the game, I can run it maxed with the exception of x4 MSAA (instead of x8, which I probably wouldn't use anyway) with a good enough frame rate to satisfy my needs. I game at 1200p, so 1080p will be slightly less demanding, though as mentioned by the poster above, it depends what minimum frame rate you want. I think the lowest fps I've seen since the second section of the game has been around the low 30's.

I expect you already know that a 280X = a 7970 ghz edition.

Yeah the 280x is a good card for 1080p. I have a 7970 ghz and it runs all of the games I play maxed. Some games you may need to turn down the AA a bit if you want 60fps.
