How good is Apple Care?

My original iPod Touch battery is playing up and seems to lose charge over the span of a day. Now I could turn the brightness down, set idle time and turn off wifi when I'm not using it but I don't think I should have to. I certainly didn't have to a few months ago.

The Apple Store Regent Street is round the corner from where I work, so I was planning on visiting them at lunch time or something.

My question is, how likely is it that Apple will help me out with this sort of thing? The website says that the 12 month warranty is due to expire on 2nd December so I guess it's now or never. Would I need to bring the original packaging or just the iPod itself?

Cheers.

Well, I was booked in for 3:40 but wasn't seen until 4:00. The junior technician plugged my iPod in but his diagnostics software couldn't help him as it wasn't displaying any usage. I had upgraded my firmware because it wouldn't be very good turning up with CFW. He asked a colleague what to do and he was told to swap it out.

They gave me a like for like swap so I am now in possession of a brand new 1G iPod Touch.

Good service but I'm not paying 40 quid for a year worth of cover.
