How good is the 256MB Nvidia Geforce 8600GS?

Could everyone possibly tell me how good is the
256MB Nvidia Geforce 8400GS and what kind of
past, present and future games can it handle?

Depemds what res you want to play at.

Do you mean GTS or GTS? I've not heard of a GS.

My GT plays bioshock @ 1024x768 on full settings

I seriously doubt that it will play any recent (1-2yrs) games and it certainly will not play Crysis or future games. About the only thing it's good for is in a media pc. Seriously, it's pants.

Im only a light pc gamer and am not interested
in playing current or future games, off the top of my
head the most advanced game i want to play is doom 3
on medium settings, will i be able to do that with the 8400GS?

i have a 8600gs,m in my laptop and it plays bf2 very well at 800X600,gost recon 2 is poor so i would say the bf2 is the limit on fps shooter,s

my media pc has a 8400gs in it, full spec is e2200@3ghz, crucial 667mhz ram 2 gigs, 500giger drive.

8400gs runs crysis at everything set to low settings in game except sound quality set to high and physics set to high at 17fps average, rez is 1360x768, no AA vista 64 dx10 mode crysis 64bit. and it does drop down to 11fps in heavy action.

so in a word its basicially unplayable. if you need to do some gaming then the minimum to look at is a 8600gt 256mb the one which has ddr3 memory. for 50 quid 8600gt is worth it.

The 8400GS will run Doom3 ok, if that's all you want to play. It'll play HL2 fine also.

Dont expect to play any top, new games tho.
