I have the rig in sig, at 2.8ghz getting cpu idle of around 50c and load of about 54c. I was getting similar temperature readings with a x2 3800 at 2.8ghz aswell, so I am wondering if a scythe ninja will make a difference over my current arctic 64 pro, like drop the temp down somewhat. Could it also be that I am getting wrong readings from motherboard when I have a dual core chip installed ?, tried various single cores and all run nice and cool 38c/45 (2.8-3.1ghz).

I am using smart guardian for reading temps, also tried a64info, sandra etc.. all give same readings give or take 1/2c.

Any others here running dual core opteron or X2 cpus at 2.8ghz or above on air cooling, what temps are you getting ? and what air cooler are you using ? Thanks.

Its normal to have much higher temps on dual core chips but 4 degree diff between idle and load isnt right. Should be much higher. I get 6 degrees diff between idle and load on good water. Try core temp and see what that reports. As for the ninja, its the best air cooler ive ever used and depending on case airflow the only cooler that challenges it is the Big Typhoon

how hard was it to fit the fan on yours? I had a pig of a time getting mine on!
maybe I should have used the standard fan, would have if it wasn't smashed!

With mine, idling at 25-30, load 50, overclocked from 2.2 to 2.7ghz. Yeah bit of a pig to fit, both the HSF and the fan itself. Your temps seem too high especially at idle.

Sorry to hijack this thread but can anyone tell me if the Akasa-955 is a good cooler for a E6300? I intended to use it on my single core P4 3Ghz when I took it from a dell case that just had a vent from the system fan at the back of the case. I then decided to get the E6300 (my P4 turned out to be a 478pin not 775 :o) so I am just wondering will it be enough to cool it if I overclock it to 7x300 on the Asrock Dual-VSTA board? Thanks :)
