I use Mcaffee's corporate(Please don't compare this to the crap they offer to the public)

My computer AV is Pretty good, Mcaffee corp isnt even listed in the top ten, and i havent had a virus in years. Why? Because I know how to avoid them, My AV is honestly just a backup in case I'm stupid one day :p

Simply put, Firewall is the 1st line of defence, I use my router with an updated ACL.

Well if you scroll down that page you'll see that nod is top of the Heuristics only detection list.

Also nod has been top of the virus bulletin list for a long time.

It all depends on how the scoring is done.

Rating an AV prgram is very difficult because of all the different test conditions. The installation config, viruses used and how quickly definitions are released all contribute to how good it is.

The results posted above may not necessarily be indicitive of actual performace int he real world.

And I'm using Kaspersky.

i'm aware that NOD probably isn't the best in terms of protection, but it's far from worse and its performance is very good. Perfect for my laptop, i don't even notice the difference in performance. If i were to put Norton on there it would suffer!

The balance between detection and speed is perfect for me. I love the ease of use, i love it that i can turn the graphics off so i can administer it with RDP quickly if I should need to, i love the fact that it never bothers me with popups and i never have to even check that it's running and up to date because i know it will be :)

Sophos isn't even on the list so I'm not sure I will give that list much attention.

Edit...

I have just looked at the full list and Sophos comes in at 32.

From my expierience the big players in the corporate AV world are Sophos, Symantec, Mcafee and Trend ans Kasperksey.

trend being the designers behind most of the internets infrastructures hardware anti virus systems and yet it still isnt even listed lol

About 4 months ago I bought a 3 computer pack with 3 years of updates of NOD32 - that's how confident I am in the product.
Hasn't let me down yet.

We run Sophos at work, it's so easy to administer on a network, but I wouldn't say it had the best detection rates, not bad enough to move away to another AV, but not brilliant.

Also, I have found it can be a bit of a resource hogger. Don't get me wrong, I like Sophos, but I wouldn't run it at home.

That test tells you absolutely nothing. It's hardly a real world test.

Not true. If proves the effectivness of your Antivirus software in scanning various file types using recognised signatures.

I gave up running an AV program 6 months ago. I do restore my machine from image every 3 months though. I have tested prior to restoration with various different AV programs and never had a virus.

I wouldn't dream of being on the internet without a firewall though.

Well I thought i'd give it a shot, and Mcaffee corp caught all 4. I was actually kinda worried :p

Firstly, it only looks for one signature

Secondly, it doesn't test any type of heuristics

All it tests is whether it can scan archives and different file extensions. This tells you very, very little.
