How GPU Memory Is Required?

Hi all,

very soon im going to swap out my 280GTX SLI for possibly a 580GTX (something that's faster than 2x280)

Less Noise
Less Aggro
Less Power consumption (possibly)

question is i currently have 1GB GPU memory in my 280GTX's

now i game at 2560x1600 and like everything maxed including AA/AF on every game (dont play crysis)

how much GPU memory would be a bare minimum now days?

The 2gb on the SLI setup is shared, whereas the 580 has 1.5gb all to itself which is more than enough.

Though wait a week, on the 15th ATI's NDA is lifted on their new 69xx series cards, which may or may not be better than the 580, nobody knows.

You should wait and see what AMD bring to the table, if anything prices might change.

1.5GB on gtx580 should be enough for you it's enough for my 2560x1440.

1.2GB on gtx570's is a bit short i think. in GTA4, my was using around 1.3GB of vRAM.

I'm thinking of a GTX480 or GTX580 (maybe 2GB version if possible) just to have some spare if needed (will be playing in 3D with this card)

i would like to stick with NVidia for Cuda/Physx but willing to swap ship if there is somthing nice.

I have had a HD3850 in the past and it treated me well.

im just looking to see if a 480 is an upgrade or downgrade at the moment

there will only be 1.5GB or 3GB gtx480/580. won't be any 2GB versions due to memory bus configuration.
