How hard is it to implement a queue system?

This is what is crazy though, the PS5 Pro launch was a pretty big flop because it was overpriced, offered negligible performance gains over the current PS5 so the actual demand for it was pants as nobody wanted it - Even if they didn't have a queue system, you could just buy them on the rainforest without a problem.

The same happens for a GPU and people lose their minds and must have it? PC owners just clearly happier to blow obscene amounts of money for small performance increases.

I bought a ps5 in 2020 at launch and it was so easy to get one; the demand was huge but there was a lot of stock too!

there was still 30th Anniversary left, because scalpers didn't manage to scalp them
I don't think scalpers tried to scalp them
I ordered one without queuing at all and saw plenty in stock in many places.

A queue system doesn't stop scalpers/bots, it just gives that illusion so people stop complaining

I guess OC couldn't care less about their buyers and who purchases their GPUs, but I don't imagine their servers dying at every RTX launch is a good thing for them?

I've managed to purchase a rare variant of a console few months ago, thanks to the queue system implemented there to stop scalpers and I wasn't even trying.
While this wouldn't stop scalpers, it would lead to many more cards going to legitimate customers.

I got a vega 56 on launch day, but just out of interest I was trying to view the 5090 cards and the website fell over for me. I expect the same to happen with the 7090xt from AMD. If I buy one I have to know availability of waterblocks for that card too.

I do think there should be something like a queue, I was in the queue for battlefield labs; registered interest eventually.

I guess it doesn't even need to be a queue system, just do an advanced unlock code. Forum members get a 2 week loyalty window, whereby they are sent a single use code after registering interest on the forum via say a 500 post minium access thread. Go to the GPU page, it prompts for the code to unlock the page, single use code is entered and forum member shops and buys x1 GPU. That code is logged against the order once they've checked out. After 2 weeks, the code lockdown is removed and general pop gain access. Website won't crash either as the exclusive invite for forum members can be spread over the 2 weeks with no FOMO. Seems simple enough to me. Or maybes I'm just simple lol. :p

A 5080 which is really a 5070 today is costing the same as yesterday's 4090.
The RTX 5070, 4090 performance for 4090 money. Only made possible with AI.

I think the biggest issue for doing something on the forum is just the lack of stock especially 5090s which is the more popular card here.

Sony didn’t stop producing the normal PS5s 6 months before launching the pro though, Nvidia artificially creates a situation where people are genuinely scared stiff that they won’t be able to get any higher end card at all and if they don’t buy the second one pops into stock no matter the price then someone else or a scalper will and they’ll miss out.
