How hard is it to terminate network cables?

I have cat5e running all over the place, due to my walls being lined with kryptonite (apparently) which blocks wireless signals rather nicely.

I have a few unsightly coils of cable at certain points as I estimated lengths and bought pre-made cable lengths.

Now, what I want to do is chop off the extra lengths and attach RJ45 plugs. I believe I need a thing called a "Krone" punch down tool and maybe a crimp tool, plus a few RJ45 plugs, natch.

How easy is it for a klutz to do?

To reattach plugs to the cable ends you just need a crimp tool. You only need a Krone tool for faceplates.

If your attaching plugs it’s worth spending the few extra pence to add cable boots.

A Cyclops cutter (Google it) makes life easier if you can justify the expense.

Its pretty easy to do aslong as the colored cables for both ends match which pins they go to - there images online for the standard way around your supposed to do it.

All you need is the RJ45 plugs and the crimp tool.

Ah, I see - thanks guys.

Ordered a "kit" from the usual repository of everything that includes plugs, boots and a crimp tool - and a cable tester that is supposedly useless.

Erm, I couldn't find anything like this on OcUk - is it hidden away somewhere? I always feel guilty when I resort to ordering stuff from elsewhere...
