Long story short.

I need a new "Comfort ECU" for the RS6, it operates the Central Locking, Radio and other bits and bobs. When i asked for a quote 2 months ago they asked for £560 fitted.

Anyhoos, since then I have been getting by with no Radio and having to open the doors with the key until this week. It's now getting on my Moobs.

I also need a service (£450, the oil being the main cost here) and an MOT. As you can see it aint cheap. Just over a grand.

So I phoned them up and had a "discussion" which culminated in them charging me £624 for the lot.

Now they must still be making money, which just goes to show what a huge mark up they have.

*rant off*

A service of which the oil is the main cost being £450? I think you mis understand a bit, there is no service like that which costs anywhere near £450.

Oil = £175

Some Castrol stuff. I done the gear box oil myself, that's another £17 a litre bottle and it took 10 bottles :P Mind you, you dont want that Gear Box to fail.

Slightly off at a tangent but a mate has just been offered £35K for his lovely 996 GT3RS which I suspect would not be up for anything less than £65K on their forecourt. Should give you an insight into OPC's markups...

Sounds like the same Castrol Stuff as I use. £175? You have to be kidding.

Edit: Just checked on the Castrol site, you need Edge 5W30 for the RS6. From what I've seen this is actually cheaper than the 0w30 Edge I bought, and I paid £55 for 9 litres of it!

Not sure what I use in the RS4 (I am no longer a stoodee so crap like this fades with each breath) but its around £17 a litre and is Shell Helix Ultra stuff used in the long life services (which I am coming off as its too long for such a car in my opinion) and it loves the taste of it!

Yeah, that sounds right. The gearbox oil though is very expensive. But like I say. you dont want to give that gearbox anything less than it deserves. Especially as it ha 530BHP going through it.

Yea Edge is 17 quid a litre if you are daft enough to buy it from Halfords or let Audi do it with no discount :p

But thats still not £175!

Where did you get it from at that price Fox?

The comfort ECU AKA the central convenience module is easy to change and code. Takes half an hour to an hour with the module itself around £150 so they were qutoing a lot at £560 to change it.

They are also putting a huge mark up on the oil my VW dealer will sell you the same Castrol 5w30 longlife oil for £10 a litre in litre bottles or £9 a litre at the service.

whilst we're on the subject of cheap oil

thinking of supplying the dealer with my own oil at the next service. WHeres the cheapest place to get some mobil 1 0w40 fully synth from ?
