How honest should you be with your boss - hate job

I have a line management meeting with my boss this week. I have been unhappy for 12+ months and i am trying my best to get another job but i havent had much luck. I did get very close between me and another person and they said we are expanding the team again over the next two years so would like to keep your records and give you a call if your interested still. Now obvisouly anything could happen and i might not hear from them.
Anyway on topic the reasons im not happy:
Bored of job, motivation has gone everyday is a struggle to do anything quarter decent.
No team anymore, im by myself as a trainee who cant learn from anyone and feels isolated(not even covid related).
Hate parts of my job that should be given to someone else, while with my limited specialism should be doing something else.
Money is rubbish, not the biggest reason for me hating my job, but the job i went for was a 40% increase.
Being promised to advance my career but impossible to achieve with knowbody to show me what i must do.

Im not even sure what my boss can do to change that or if i even bring up my problems to my boss. I'm in a good position where my job security is pretty strong even in todays covid climate. I feel a bit of a git as people are losing their jobs and furloughed and heres me with a job thats not going away anytime soon.

You need to be honest, if your boss doesn't know your upset how is he suppose to help you?

Tell him your unhappy give him the opportunity to do something about it, if nothing happens move on. - You don't ask you don't get!
 
Be honest about your feelings but phrase it sensibly and delicately with emphasis on wanting to progress rather than stagnate. You're not a git for not enjoying your job! It is also definitely worth looking to see what else is out there and maybe fire a couple of applications off if anything sounds suitable.
 
If you are set on leaving then you may as well bring it up as you have little lose. It's probably worth doing sooner rather than later; I loosely talked around such issues with my boss, expressed feelings during PDR etc but never really drove the message home, it then reached boiling point and I just explained the situation and that I didn't feel I could continue any longer. This provoked some action to try and improve matters but it was too late really I'd already made up my mind to leave (even with no job to go to), so you might as well give them a chance to see if they can do anything about it sooner rather than later.

I take it you're not in a position to survive without a job, plus that would be risky in the current climate anyway.

Maybe a different area of work is a possibility for a few months or something? To get you out of your current situation if it's really that bad.

I was in a similar position a few years ago , a job with nothing to do it was abysmal. It's definitely not worth the toll on your mental health.
 
I think there is a big difference between moaning and giving feedback. You could deliver it in a way that makes you sound like you're moaning, but you can also state some facts and constructively provide this information. I'd state I'd like to have a 1:1 to discuss the points and try and get a plan on how you can progress within the business etc. with plans to meet expectations and deliverables.

Big difference between someone just moaning and someone being specific about issues and (importantly) being constructive about it, suggesting solutions too etc..
 
Staggers me how many fairly senior people at work moan about things but when presented with the opportunity to come up with some solutions and solve problems they have zero input. I always have so much more time for those who have thought about options and propose things to me, even if I may not agree with it.

im in a similar boat, we had redundancies here a few months back, i ended up getting a promotion without the pay increase but tons more responsibility. As a branch we're just about making money which is where he expected us to be and advised once brexit happens a lot more work will be coming our way and that ill get 10% of the profits. Yesterday I was offered a lower leveled job for more money and benefits. My now director didnt batter an eye lid. He did exactly the same, and said a lot without giving me any reason to stay other than potentially earning a lot of money next year. Part of me wants to ride it out and get the office brexit ready, and then another part of me is telling me I should be earning 15k a year more. I think at this moment in time, employers cant really offer you any extra benefits because they know jobs are scarce and can be filled relatively easy.
 
Thanks for the support everyone, good community as usual. I had a call yesterday for an interview next week. Sounds like the perfect job for me and ticks all the boxes for what I want. Fingers crossed for next week.
