my X800XL is topping out at 107C when playing FEAR and 49C idle.

seems a BIG difference in temps considering its got an arctic cooler on.

reseat perhaps?

I would say yes, 107C just a wee bit too toasty for my liking.

Could be a dodgy sensor though I guess as well though.

made me wonder as every now and again the system reboots for no reason... been happening a lot today when benching on 3dmark for the new 6.2 omega drivers.

guess ill reseat it again tommorrow. :)

That is a tad high. Anything up to 80c is normally fine but over 100 is damn toasty!

I'd look at re-seating your current cooler first. If that doesn't help then is your case's air-flow ok?

case flow is 120mm fan front and rear. arctic cooler on CPU blowing straight out the back. only thing in front of the gfx card is my hard drive and nothing else. PSU is an enermax coolergiant so i imagine actual case temps are pretty good.

since reseating it looks like its idling in windows at 42C.

ive tightened the screws up to the point where they are just about to bend the cooler screw holes. i used to do them finger tight before as i was worried about damaging the card.

do what ive done with my system, cos you will notice quite a drop with your cpu temp too

Remember to drill holes in the side of the case where the fan is.

i have a jeantech phong which has the fan hole on the side over the CPU already, but having a freezer 64 in there makes space tight. and i like the quietness of the 120mm fans dont want another 80mm fan in there really.

oh yeh, since reseating it temps have come down to 94C max temp now in FEAR.
Mate, get rid of the arctic cooler, that's ridiculously high for an XL. Even with the STOCK cooler my XL never went above 70 degrees, then with the zalman on it was a rare thing for it to go above 65 :)

maybe its not sitting on the GPU right. :(

might have to swap back to stock cooler to check it.
I'm not sure myself, i've not heard any experiences before of people using the AC on an X1800 series card, maybe it just can't handle it
