for my 7900gs, how hot should it be sitting at idle and whilst playing games?

Having just put in an xfi extreme music and having the DFI board, the xfi sitting to close for comfort near my 7900gs which i think my be increasing the temps and giving me problems with an already problematic card

currently sitting around 50-52 and rising to around 70ish during a game of css which caused my screen to turn to a mass artifact (think the card is borked anyway, pending further testing)(side note, my room is a little warm right now due to someone turning on the radiator)

Don't recall temps prior to xfi installation

50c idle and 70c load temps should give no problems....

My 7800gtx's use to run in the 90's with no problems...

I upped my core volt to 1.55 and memory to 2.2 and my temps were peaking at 75C in ATiTool. Was running stable at 685/900. Was having some issues with the pencil mods though so I dropped volts to 1.4 and default 2.0 and am now running 635/800 stable. Temps peak at 65 or less in FEAR. Works fine. You could try upping voltages slightly as I was having some power issues when I first installed my card. If you have a multimeter you can check to make sure that the voltages for core and memory are at default. 1.2 for core, 2.0 for mem.

'm just taking it as borked card, its not even running css on high settings and it artifacts all over the shop, another RMA i'm going to have to contend with

It could still be a matter of insufficient power. My card had a lot of artefacts because of a dodgy resistor job I did on one of my fans that must have been drawing too much power from the 12V rail.

Try taking everything that's not needed out of your system and then running a 3D program to see if you still get the artefacts. If you do then it's an RMA situation. It's always best to make sure its borked before you RMA it as if they find it works in their tests then you'll just have wasted a lot of money on postage.
