how hot should it be?

i am running a media center wiht a sapphire r7 260x, when i am watch 4k content the GPU hits 72c, and it idle i see a constant 40c

is it ok tu run at 72c for upto 3hr's at a time

An AMD no problem. Realistically you could run it at 90 degrees as good as indefinitely. (certainly for as long as you will keep the card).

People panic too much about temps. 72 is more than comfortable.

Wouldn't be concerned unless it is going past 80C - generally GPUs are rated for upto mid 90s or so under normal operation but I'd recommend staying below 80C if you want decent lifespan out of them.
