How hot should my CPU and GPU be at idle?

I've just downloaded CPUID Hardware Monitor and i'm a little concerned by the GPU temperature. Its currently at 75c (175f). I have a dual monitor setup (dell 22" and Iiyama 17") but other than that i'm not doing anything that would strain the GPU. 75c seems rather hot?

My CPU is idling 43c which sounds ok i guess since my cooling is pretty lacklustre. Nothing is overclocked though.

Cheers.

75 degrees is extremely hot.

Are you sure the fan is spinning at all? Down grade your ATi drivers to 10.2 to reduce idle 2d clock speeds which will help somewhat.

I cant seem to find older versions of the drivers anywhere, I dont suppose you have a link?
[edit] S'ok, i found them.

Your CPU is a little warm but not too bad, cleaned the dust out of your case/fans lately?

I had a look in there yesterday and it didn't look too bad. Its a lack of case fans thats going to be the main problem. I plan on getting a new case soon and probably building a whole new system in the new year.

I've taken the card out now and blew out all the dust. After rebooting its now sitting at 71c and thats with the side panel of my case removed. The fan on the GPU is definitely spinning and extracting air rather than blowing on it. Is that normal?

I would not take to much notice of HW monitor to be honest, it was showing my 12v rail running at 12.99!!! i used a multi meter to test and it was no where near the reading HW monitor was showing. So for my i find it very false

For gpu readings go for gpuz and for cpu temp core temp is your best bet great little app

GPUZ also reports the temp at 72c. However, it also reports the fan speed as 54% which leaves me with two questions: Why would my fan not be running at 100% given that i've never fiddled with it or anything? And would this alone account for the high temps?
