How important is CPU compatibility within RAM specs? ie "CPU Compatibility: Intel Haswell-E & Intel Skylake". Will it not work with other chipsets such as Kaby Lake? Be fine? Or other issues?

Most of the time no different just been verified to work on X chip. any DDR3/4 should work with any DDR3/DDDR4 motherboard, but if you go above the chips rated speed 1660/2400 results may vary.

it only really matters in the server space, where server/chips motherboards can be Very picky for example
16GB of Kingston Hynix 2400 will not work work
16GB of kingston Samsung 2400 will

Pain in the :P

Thought so, never been a consideration before (been building PCs since pre-2000s), only motherboard compatibility, but currently experiencing issues and so trying to rule every possible out.
