How important is Displayport 2.1 when pairing monitor with a 5090?

Now that I’ve upgraded my gpu it’s time to upgrade the monitor and I’m thinking a 32 inch 4k OLED.

Seems to be very limited options when buying a monitor with dp 2.1 though and I’m not sure that I want to go with Gigabyte for a monitor.

Would it be silly to buy a Samsung G80SD when it only has dp 1.4? Is 2.1 even needed or makes any noticeable difference?

It depends whether the monitor you are using needs the extra bandwidth or not. Most don't.

The Samsung Odyssey G9 57" dual uhd does or its limited to 120hz instead of 240hz.

It doesn’t need anything more than DP 1.4 with DSC for that spec. I don’t think you’ll see any difference since you have an RTX 50 card so don’t overthink it. This video explores the topic and will prob help

Ok so Ive just learned that theres a problem using displayport with nvidia gpu’s on this monitor.

Is there any disadvantage to connecting my 5090 to it via hdmi? From what Ive read, You can get the same fps with hdmi 2.1 as you can with displayport1.4 with DSC on, and apparently hdmi 2.1 beats displayport 1.4 uncompressed.
