Hi all,

I have an 11 plate Skoda Fabia diesel and it is missing the engine cover. Skoda are sourcing one for me but its been a couple of weeks now, how important is this cover?

The plastic thing? Absolutely no use at all, just there to hide all the wires and stuff so it looks prettier. I honestly think they are more harm than good since moisture and oil spillage etc can get trapped underneath it where you can't clean up :)

Depends, a lot of the VAG cars integrate the air intake in the engine cover. Not sure about the Fabia diesel but the petrol turbos definitely do. I know the MK5 Golf 140 diesel does too. If it is the same in the Fabia, it is rather important.

I'm sure someone more knowledgeable with these cars will prove me wrong but going by what I can find on Google they seem to be purely aesthetic on these engines.

I had a PD170 engined Mk5 Golf and there was nothing functional about the engine cover at all. The PD140 is essentially the same engine.
