How important is the QVL for choosing RAM?

My B450-F has less than a good choice of a QVL list: https://dlcdnets.asus.com/pub/ASUS/...G/Memory_QVL_3rd_Gen_AMD_Ryzen_Processors.pdf

The RAM I currently have is not on it but appears to work fine so how important is it because based on this list it's impossible for me to buy Samsung B-Die CAS 16 3600

From my own experience Samsung based B-Die offers great compatibility whether on the QVL list or not.

When you look at the chip brand column many of the kits listed appear to use B-Die.

The top line for example - GALAXY HOF4PXL4BST4400P19MF162C 2*8GB SS Samsung 19-19-19-39 1.4 4400 4400 is a B-Die kit and will do CAS 16 3600.

The 8 pack Dark-Pro ram will be perfect.

Me and loads of others have it and it runs fine across all generations of Ryzen.

the QVL is just the ram the bored marker tested so you know it will 100% be supported, how ever i have never run into an unsupported stick yet.

Yeah this totally agree. I've got the 4x8 team group xtreem 8Pack Edition. Xmp and its already 3600cl16 fast enough and can overclock once I've learnt how to lol

In the last 20 years, I have never bought RAM that was also on the QVL list for the respective motherboard.
Maybe I was lucky, but I have never had an issue with it yet.
