How is my approach?

Them: "Hello. Can I help you?"
Me: "Yes please. I just want to ask if you have any vacancies open for either part time or full time placements?"

Sometimes they say yes, and ask me for a CV, sometimes they say no. However, i've never got a reply for any interview or anything else like that.

How can I improve?

I've found I get more luck via e-mail. For example, this morning, I was instructed to e-mail some woman named Danielle and attach my CV. She got back to me in a matter of 30 mins and said she would consider my application further.
