how is my rig nowadays ?

recently took an interest in gaming on my pc again
currently has...
GTX 470, IP35 pro mobo, E8400 cpu - 3ghz, 74gb SATA drive, 4GB RAM (was decent low latency sticks but I can't remember exactly what they are) windows8

is there anything there that is worth keeping and how much of a BOOST would I see by upgrading

Cheapest option;

Overclock the E8400 (its capable of 4GHZ),
Add more ram,
Get a solid state hard drive.

, this was 2 -3 years ago but I'm sure 3's the fastest it would go and be stable
had a highly overclocked cpu before this one and it was just a pain, crashes every so often etc

Depends on your budget. I'd just sell the system as-is, and get a new one. Expensive (£750-£1000 to make it worth your while).

never considered selling 2 year old tech tbh, I just imagined it wouldn't be worth selling
mpt had an urge to build a new pc for ages....

I had a E8500 running at 4.5Ghz and it was pefectly stable and never crashed. Wolfdales are overclocking demons.

Got my E8200 to 4.2GHz, it is stuck at stock now though as I have a different motherboard with it now and it is pants!
